The New Palestine volleyball team posted a 25-16, 25-16, 25-17 sweep of Lutheran during Wednesday’s senior night match.

Sarah Adam had a double-double with 20 digs and 23 assists. She also tallied three kills. Kaelyn Armstrong also had a double-double with 13 digs and 13 kills.

Jesi Hall added eight kills. Kennedy Stephenson had four kills and three blocks. Liv Ellis had six kills, while Grace Myers added 18 digs.

“We had a great evening celebrating our seniors,” Dragons coach Kelli Gabehart said. “The team looked great up at the net. Very physical and our blocking improved a lot over the last couple practices. Our seniors have done a wonderful job the past four years and we are excited to keep the wins rolling.”

Boys Tennis

Dragons defeat Bears

The New Palestine boys tennis team scored a 3-2 victory over Lawrence Central to win on senior day.

At No. 1 singles, Ezra Schwier won 7-5, 6-3. Ethan Haeberle won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. At No. 2 doubles, Zayden Stiller/Jackson Havel claimed the third point with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Marauders improve to 11-0

The Mt. Vernon boys tennis team continued its winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Lawrence North at home on Wednesday.

The Marauders amassed their points at No. 2 singles where Chris Hays won 6-4, 7-5 and at both doubles spots. The No. 1 doubles team of Dallas Turner and Owen Koon won 6-0, 6-1. Andrew Jones and Logan LeRoy won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

“What a difference a night makes. We don’t mince words, we don’t sugarcoat for our players and from the Greenfield-Central match to the LN match there was the intensity and play we have to have every night,” Marauders coach Gabe Muterspaugh said.

“No. 1 dubs since losing at Richmond have played with much more passion and urgency. No. 2 dubs bounced back after giving it away at G-C to get a huge point for us tonight. Chris Hays has been the captain and backbone of this team all year and again he showed his “intestinal fortitude” by beating a solid player from LN to clinch the win for MV and move us to 11-0.

Girls Golf

Dragons post best score of the season

The New Palestine girls golf team shot its best score of the year Wednesday at Hawk’s Tail, but fell to Richmond 171-186.

Megan Diller led the Dragons with a 41. Zoe Nelson and Abby Belgin each shot 48s. Michaela Purnell added a 49. All were season-best rounds. Hanna Beller’s 56 was the Dragons’ fifth score.

Marauders win three-way match

The Mt. Vernon girls golf team posted a 190 on Wednesday to defeat both Delta and Muncie Central.

Delta was second with a 197, and Muncie Central was third with a 222.

Alaina Nugent led the Marauders by carding a 43 for medalist honors.

Cougars cruise past Arabians

The Greenfield-Central girls golf team defeated Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Pendleton Heights 176-208 on Wednesday.

Tandess O’Neal celebrated senior night with a medalist performance, posting a personal best score of 38. Caroline Gibson shot a 39. Haley Hoagland and Sydnie Wherry finished the scoring with a 49 and a 50, respectively.

Girls Soccer

Cougars blank Eagles 5-0

The Greenfield-Central girls soccer team traveled to Delta on Wednesday night and scored a key HHC victory, 5-0, over the host Eagles.

The Cougars are now 3-4-1 on the season overall and 2-2 in the HHC.

Kambell Trapp finished with two goals, while Gladys Rodriguez had a pair of assists. Kelsi McLaughlin had a goal and an assist. Courtney Vaughn added an assisted goal. Sarah Contrarez had a goal assisted by Cora Bishop.

The shutout was maintained by goalkeeper Hannah Skene.
