GREENFIELD — Only half of Greenfield-Central High School students will attend classes on Monday, when a hybrid attendance schedule is enacted to minimize the number of students at the school to manage the spread of COVID-19.

The school board voted unanimously Thursday afternoon to switch to a hybrid schedule, effective Monday.
Parents were being notified of the change late Thursday afternoon, Superintendent Harold Olin said.
The new schedule divides students alphabetically by their last names. All students will follow a rolling pattern of two days of onsite learning followed by two days of virtual learning.
Students with last names starting with A-K will attend school on Monday, Aug. 17, while students with last names starting with L-Z will stay home for virtual learning.
Dr. Lori Katz, director of secondary education, said the corporation’s new busing software will enable them to easily modify daily school bus schedules to accommodate the changes.
