Royals baseball golf outing slated for later this month

The annual Eastern Hancock Royals baseball fundraising golf outing will be conducted on Saturday, Aug. 29.

The “Florida Scramble” event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start at Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield. Registration will begin at noon.

The cost per person is set at $60. A team of four can compete for $240. Those interested in the lunch portion of the event without golf can do so at $20 per person.

Proceeds from the event will support the Royals baseball program. There will be prizes awarded to the first- and last-place teams along with other prizes. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Registration for the golf outing is due by Wednesday, Aug. 26. Registration forms can be found on the Eastern Hancock Athletics website.

Marauders golf finishes sixth at Trojan Classic

The Mt. Vernon girls golf team opened the season on a strong note last week with a pair of wins over Hoosier Heritage Conference foes Pendleton Heights and Shelbyville.

The Marauders finished up their busy first week with a sixth-place run at the Trojans Classic on Saturday.

Mt. Vernon tallied a score of 368 at the nine-team invitational, placing above Martinsville (370), Whiteland (424) and Greenwood (425). Host Center Grove won the 18-hole event with a 314.

The Marauders were led by Meredith Johnson with a 77. Her score was second-best overall in the field. Alaina Nugent carded an 81, followed by Mackenzie Miner’s 100. Emily Rollo added a 110, and Haidyn Cauldwell shot a 124.

Mt. Vernon defeated Pendleton Heights 184-194 on Aug. 4. They improved to 2-0 with a 201-251 victory over Shelbyville on Wednesday. Nugent earned medalist honors with a 41.
