Marauders win big

over Eagles, Trojans

The Mt. Vernon wrestling team improved to 11-1 on Wednesday night with a 46-26 win over Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Delta and a 73-6 win over New Castle.

The Marauders claimed nine matches against Delta with five pins and three decisions. Mt. Vernon won another match by forfeit.

Against New Castle, the Marauders scored seven pins and one major decision and a decision.

Fourth-ranked senior Chris Wilkerson went 2-0 on the night with two pins to improve to 12-0 at 145 pounds this season. Max Hayes had a pin and a major decision to improve to 12-0 at 170.

Marauders win their

seventh straight game

The Mt. Vernon girls basketball team used a huge 21-point third quarter to roll past host Anderson 55-25 on Tuesday night.

The Marauders improved to 8-1 on the season behind a team-high 16 points and 11 rebounds from Olivia Yeley.

Lexi Shelton finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, and Abby Worley added 11 points.

Yeley whot 6-of-11 from the floor, and Shelton went 2-for-3 from 3-point range to bury half of Mt. Vernon’s four treys.

Sydnee Perry chipped in nine points with two steals and three rebounds. Worley dished out seven assists with nine steals.

NP’s Stacey breaks record, but Marauders win meet

Colin Stacey broke New Palestine’s school scoring record in 1-meter diving (six dives), but Mt. Vernon won the meet in Tuesday’s contest in Fortville.

Stacey had a total of 336.50. The old mark was held by Max Scripture, who scored 315.60 in 2010.

Mt. Vernon won the meet, 113-67.

Winners for the Marauders were, Aiden Tierney (100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay), Evan Flick (100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay), Logan Schomaker (200 IM, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay), Matthew Garey (500 Freestyle, 200 Medley Relay), Cole Worley (200 Medley Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay), Brady Gray (200 Freestyle Relay. 400 Freestyle Relay), Caleb Strege (200 Medley Relay) and Aidan Murphy (200 Freestyle).

New Palestine winners were, Jack Schwartz (50 Freestyle), Chase Siler (100 Breaststroke) and Stacey.

Dragons defeated Marauders in dual meet

New Palestine defeated Mt. Vernon 101-82 in a dual meet held in Fortville, Tuesday.

Winners for the Dragons were, Bailey Young (200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle Relay), Katelyn Trimpe (50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle Relay), Karen Shriver (1-meter diving), Kayleigh Wright (400 Freestyle Relay), Lillie Poag (400 Freestyle Relay).

Victorious Mt. Vernon winners included, Fiona Wray (100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay), Lizzy Hiatt (100 Breaststroke, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay), Abby Crouch (200 IM, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay), Maddie Moore (200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay).
