Tickets for football state available at New Pal

Tickets for this weekend’s IHSAA football state finals are available for sale at New Palestine High School through the athletic department.

Tickets are $15 each and are being sold in the main lobby today from noon to 7 p.m., 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.

Each ticket will provide access to all-three state finals games this Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium, including New Palestine’s Class 5A championship matchup against Valparaiso at 7 p.m.

The top-ranked New Palestine Dragons are unbeaten this season at 13-0 and are vying for the program’s third state title overall and second straight against the second-ranked Vikings (13-0).

The Class A state championship game opens the day at noon between Lafayette Central Catholic and Indianapolis Lutheran, followed by the Class 3A game between Bishop Chatard and Heritage Hills at 3:30 p.m.

Bulmahn, local volleyball standouts earn HHC honors

Fourteen players have been named to the All-Hoosier Heritage Conference volleyball team, including three from 4A state champion New Castle and four from conference runner-up Yorktown.

Melani Shaffmaster, Mabrey Shaffmaster and Laila Smith led New Castle to a 35-1 record and the 4A state title this season. All three led the HHC volleyball team.

Mt. Vernon’s Eric Bulmahn was named Coach of the Year after leading the Marauders to a 27-5 record and a third-place finish in the conference.

Colts’ Mack named FedEx Ground Player of the Week

Indianapolis Colts’ Marlon Mack was awarded the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week on Thursday, Nov. 21.

Mack rushed for 109 yards on 14 attempts (7.8 avg.) and one touchdown during the Colts win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

This is Mack’s second POW honor of the season since his first in Week 1. FedEx donated $2,000 to The USO in Mack’s name.
