Shirley A. Callahan, 90, Westfield, IN, passed away 11/13/19 at Maple Park Village. Born in Rushville, IN on 4/7/1929 to Dallas & Edith Fay (Simpson) Hardwick. Graduated from Rushville High School in 1947. Completed Executive Secretarial coursework in 1948 from Central Business College in Indianapolis.

Shirley married Ora V. Callahan on September 10, 1950 in Rushville, IN. They were married 62 years & had five children.

Shirley was a legal secretary for several law firms in the Indianapolis & Rushville areas, and she was an expert at shorthand. She was a Hancock County resident for 50 years. She & Ora supported their local 4-H program for 56 years, sponsoring 6 annual Hancock County 4-H awards for Achievement, Citizenship & Leadership for 56 years.

From 1983-87, Shirley served as Clerk-Treasurer of Cumberland, IN. She served as President of Hancock County Extension Homemakers from 1963-64. She was a 65+ year member of Biz-Z-B Extension Homemakers and a member of Common Threads Quilt Guild for 26 years.

Shirley was a long-time member of Living Streams Church in McCordsville, IN. She loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and her life long mission was to share that love to encourage others. Shirley enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, knitting & writing. She wrote many special interest articles for The Greenfield Reporter, The Hancock Advertiser, The Rushville Reporter & The Farm World. In 2010, she was an honored recipient of the Lorraine Caldwell Award of Excellence.

Shirley is survived by daughters, Lorraine (William) Ewing of McCordsville, IN, Colleen (Jerry) Sipple of Clarks Hill, IN; sons, Kevin (Joan) Callahan of Scottsdale, AZ, Lyndon (Sara) Callahan of Wilkinson, IN, Sheldon (Beth) Callahan of Leesburg, IN; 20 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Keith, & Landon, great grandson.

Private family burial was held. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Vineyard Community Church, 1672 N 600 W, Greenfield, IN on Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 1-3 p.m.
