Dr. Larry K. Sunbury, DVM, 86, of Seymour, passed away unexpectedly at home while watching The Ohio State football game Saturday, November 9, 2019. He was born in Richmond, Ohio to the late James S. and Virgie Belle (Thomas) Sunbury.

Funeral services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at Seymour First United Methodist Church on Friday, November 15 at 11 a.m. with Revs. Rick Bell and Ed Meade officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Thursday from 3-8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

On January 3, 1954, Larry married the love of his life, Joanne Ollila; she survives. Larry and Joanne first met in Junior High School where he was an eighth-grade basketball player and she was a seventh-grade cheerleader. Larry enjoyed many things in life including Grand Cayman vacations, hiking, canoeing, driving through Muscatatuck Wildlife Refuge, Texas and Florida summer vacations with family and attending family reunions. He tried to attend as many of the kids and grandkids school and sports events as possible. He always enjoyed the annual OSU football game weekend, especially when they beat Michigan.

Dr. Sunbury graduated from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1957 and immediately came to Seymour to work at Seymour Animal Hospital alongside Dr. Willis Brown and Dr. Kenneth Brown. He practiced for 50 years before retiring in 2007. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees including finance, Youth Group Leader and Junior High Sunday school teacher. He served his community as a County Councilman for 12 years, board member for Seymour Board of Works, Township Advisory Board, and Seymour Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was appointed to Indiana State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners by Governor Otis Bowen. Larry was Cub Master for 18 years with Cub Scout Pack 529 and received the 1997 Distinguished Citizen Award presented by Hoosier Trails Council, BSA.

Larry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joanne Sunbury; children, Scot Sunbury, Sherrie (Tony) Clark, Shawn (Jaclyn Clark) Sunbury, Sandy (Tim) Trimpe, Shelly Distel, Steve (Leisa) Sunbury, Spencer (Kathy) Sunbury; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Shannon Lynne Sunbury; 3 brothers and a sister.
