GREENFIELD — A long season for the Greenfield-Central Cougars continued on Friday night, as they lost to Delta 77-0 on a cold, rainy and nasty night.

A wet ball is always hazardous for an offense so focused on handoffs in tight spaces, and the Cougars’ wishbone attack simply wasn’t able to keep the ball off the ground. In the first quarter, the Cougars lost a fumble on offense, lost a fumble on a kickoff return, and allowed the Eagles to recover an onside kick.

By the end of the quarter, the Eagles had scored five touchdowns and the game was all but over.

The Cougars had a total of eight turnovers on the night, as Delta was able to use its consistently excellent field position to keep scoring nearly every time they possessed the ball.

The Cougars will get a chance to pick up their second conference victory of the season next week as they travel to New Castle for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff for their regular season finale.
