INDIANAPOLIS

Virginia Mae “Ginny” (Whittington) Pierson, age 89, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019. She was born in Fountaintown on August 18, 1929 to Everett F. and Della Mae (Wade) Whittington.

Ginny married William “Bill” Pierson on December 18, 1970 in Greenfield.

She worked for RCA as an inspector for 38 1/2 years before retiring in 1988. Ginny was a member of the Greenfield VFW Auxiliary Post 2693, the Morristown American Legion Post #102, and Steve Jeffris Fan Club. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending quality time with them.

Ginny is survived by her husband, Bill Pierson of Indianapolis; son, John F. Long of Indianapolis; daughters, Shirley A. Smith of Abilene, TX, Marilyn F. Radcliff of Greenfield, and Jennifer L. Inman of Greenfield; stepson, Douglas G. Pierson of Beech Grove; stepdaughters, Linda K. Dreibelbis of Beech Grove and Sandra L. Martin of Fairland; 21 grandchildren; 38 greatgrandchildren; 11 great-greatgrandchildren; brother, James B. Whittington of Indianapolis; sister, Marilyn M. Rohrman and Mary E. Sorrell both of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, James A. “Jim” Long and George Philip Long; sisters, Norma R. Hewitt, Helen J. Stanley, Alice N. Palmer; and brothers, Robert S. Whittington, Paul E. Whittington, and John F. Whittington.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Pastor Mike Smith will be officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hill Cemetery in Wanamaker.
