FORTVILLE — An outdoor summer concert series in Fortville is back for an encore.

Live music and food will be featured at Landmark Park at East Staat and School streets every Thursday evening in June.

Fortville Action Inc. is bringing the free outdoor concerts back for a second year.

First on this year’s lineup is funk-and-jive duo Mank & Sass of Champaign, Illinois. Denise Hexamer, who co-chairs Fortville Action’s Summer Concert Series, said the pair performs often in Fortville, especially at FoxGardin Kitchen & Ale.

While the concert series’ acts hit the stage at 7:30 p.m., attendees are invited to come as early as 6, Hexamer said. That’s when the food truck and vendors will be stationed throughout the park.

FoxGardin’s food truck will be at the first show. Hexamer said Purdy Family Farm will also be there serving up refreshments like lemon shakeups, shaved ice, homemade kettle corn and homemade pork rinds.

The Fortville-Vernon Township Public Library will conduct a children’s reading under the park’s pagoda from 6:30 to 7.

This Thursday only, the young musicians with School of Rock out of Fishers will perform from 6 to 7.

Fortville Action Inc. is part of Main Street America, which aims to strengthen “communities through preservation-based economic development in older and historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts,” according to the organization’s website.

Hexamer said the group’s goal behind the concert series is to continue enhancing the arts in the community.

“Over the last three years, I think Fortville has been very interested in expanding the arts,” Hexamer said. “Adding the music to the park is one way to do this.”

Other nearby arts-focused establishments will have operating hours during the concerts too, Hexamer said. The Main Street Arts & Music at the Carnegie Gallery at 115 N. Main St. and Studio 309 at 309 Noel St. will be open 5 to 7 p.m. during the festivities.

The series culminates on Saturday, July 6 with Corey Cox and Big Roscoe & the Hammers during the town’s Independence Day celebration. Both acts will perform at Mill and Noel Streets behind FoxGardin. The show starts around 5 p.m.
