FAIRLAND — A tough season for the Eastern Hancock baseball team came to a close in Thursday’s sectional opener against Scecina, a semistate finalist a year ago.

The Royals, who had lost to Scecina on April 15, 11-1, found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard again in the Triton Central sectional. They were closer this time, falling to the Crusaders, 10-3, in a game played at Heritage Christian due to field conditions at Triton Central.

After falling behind in the top half of the first inning, the Royals tied things at 2-2 and eventually took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning, scoring off an error. Scecina rebounded with three runs in the fifth and added five in the seventh inning, pulling away for the final margin.

The Royals had five hits in the game, with Keegan Bowman and Ryan Burris each having two and Trey Brown having the other, a double. Burris had a solo home run and Bowman drove in the other RBI for the Royals.

Andy Locker pitched 6.2 innings on the mound, allowing 12 hits and eight earned runs while striking out four and walking three.

Eastern Hancock finishes 2019 with a 4-23 record.
