Why are you the best candidate for office?

Experience is important. My background in business combined with experience on the school board, parks board, redevelopment commission and community boards give me a unique insight into our needs, the opportunities and solutions to problems we have in our community.

What is the most pressing issue facing Greenfield?

Greenfield will continue to grow, and we must assure that we are growing in healthy ways. We need to attract younger families and professionals to not only work in Greenfield but to live here and be our next generation of leaders. Maintaining quality public services and maintaining our lower tax rates as we grow is equally important.

Some city officials have stated Greenfield needs more apartments and townhouses for current and future residents who cannot afford to own an existing home or build a new home. How should the city balance the need for single-family homes and multi-family residences?

The council recently had a presentation by the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors based on a study of all of central Indiana’s community needs. The city needs to look seriously at this study and develop a long-term housing study. Development is primarily a function of the private sector. The city can encourage private development like Broadway Flats along the Pennsy Trail, but it is primarily developers who will control this.

The Greenfield Fire Territory is understaffed, union members say, and the city is paying for a consultant to assess the department’s needs. How would you propose funding new employees and additional fire services?

The city has indeed hired a consultant to assess needs and make recommendations. Until the results of the study are complete, it would be inappropriate to comment other than to say that public safety is one of our most important duties.
