GREENFIELD — A portion of Fortville Pike will be closed for several months as crews replace the bridge over Interstate 70.

Work is expected to begin in April and is expected to be complete by fall, according to an Indiana Department of Transportation news release.

Halverson Construction Co. was awarded a $2.3 million contract from the Indiana Department of Transportation to complete the work.

Because the bridge is being replaced, the road must be closed.

The bridge is located about a mile west of State Road 9. About 2,000 cars drive on Fortville Pike daily, INDOT traffic counts show.

Drivers can use the following detours:

Those traveling north on Fortville Pike can use State Road 9 as a detour. Take County Road 200N east toward State Road 9, head north, then turn west on County Road 300N toward Fortville Pike.

Drivers traveling south on Fortville Pike should take County Road 300N east to State Road 9, head south, then turn west on County Road 200N.

The project is part of the state’s Next Level Roads initiative, in which more than $30 billion will be invested in improving Hoosier roads and bridges over the next 20 years.
