Mt. Vernon tennis falls to Cathedral

The No. 2-ranked Cathedral girls tennis team defeated Mt. Vernon, 5-0, in the regional championship Wednesday.

The Marauders finished the season 17-4, with Hancock County Tournament and sectional championships.

Curry, Oldham to suit up at Hoosier Gym classic

Knightstown’s Hoosier Gym, movie home of the “Hoosiers” Hickory Huskers, is again the site of the Hoosiers’ Reunion All-Star Classic. The 10th annual girls/boys doubleheader will take place June 5. The girls game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

New Palestine’s Ryan Curry will play in the boys contest, while Shelby Oldham of Greenfield-Central will take part in the girls battle.

The evening is highlighted by nine boys who are 2015 Indiana All-Stars. They are Devin Cannady (Mishawaka Marian/Princeton), Ryan Cline (Carmel/Purdue), Matt Holba (Guerin Catholic/Lehigh), Sean McDermott (Pendleton Heights/Butler), Joel Okafor (Richmond/Bradley), Jaelan Sanford (Evansville Reitz/Toledo), Derrik Smits (Zionsville/Valparaiso), Tahjai Teague (Pike/Ball State) and Ryan Welage (Greensburg/San Jose State).

The boys coaches will be Knightstown’s Bob Allen and New Castle’s Daniel Cox. The girls teams will be coached by John Boyer of Knightstown and Corie West of New Castle.

Eastern Hancock athletes earn honors

A host of Eastern Hancock student-athletes recently earned All-Mid-Hoosier Conference distinction.

Baseball: Cole Fout, Brandon Reid and Austin Clutinger

Softball: Darby Shaw, Brooke Walden, Jordan Pierson and Peyton West

Girls track and field: Karlee Gray, Shelby Mourey, Hope Spaulding, Maddie Lee and Cassey Hancock

New Palestine girls basketball camps near

The New Palestine High School girls basketball program invites all young women in Grades 1 to 7 who are interested in playing basketball to attend summer camps June 8 to 11 at Sugar Creek Elementary.

The camp will be run by the varsity coaching staff with help from current and former players. Grades 1 to 3 will attend from 9 to 10:15 a.m. and Grades 4 to 7 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
