GREENFIELD — Hancock County Probation Department personnel will be allowed to roll over their unused vacation time from calendar year 2014 to 2015 since department leaders decided on a new policy regarding paid-time off.

Chief probation officer Wayne Addison received permission Tuesday from the Hancock County Commissioners to make the change.

Some probation employees have collected so much time off that they might not be able to use it all before the end of the year, which means they would lose the unused time in 2016.

Now, Addison said he hopes bring a proposal before the Hancock County Council that would compensate probation officers for a percentage of their unused time off, should there be a further issue.

“If they are able to use all those hours, great,” Addison said. “If not, I’d like to work something out. I don’t want my people losing that, and I want to take care of them as best I can.”

Council members at a recent meeting said they would be open to working on an agreement with the department.
