Writers group to meet

GREENFIELD — Join a community of writers who gather for inspiration and support from 6 to 8:45 p.m. today and the third Thursday of each month at the Hancock Public Library.

People attending, whether they are published or not, are invited to discuss their works and give each other mutual encouragement. Bring up to 10 computer-printed pages of work to read aloud to the group and make six copies for others to share. First-time visitors are welcome to sit in and observe. Art contest seeking entries

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Arts and Cultural Council is calling for Indiana artists to participate in the 2015 Will Vawter Art Competition and Exhibit from April 11 to May 8.

The Vawter Art Competition, in its seventeenth year, is a juried art exhibit. Entry is open to all Indiana artists in the following categories: oil and acrylic, watercolor and everything else 2-D. The entry fee is $35 per artist for up to three entries. Art Council members pay $25.

Registrations must be postmarked by March 28. Awards range from $100 to $1,000.

‘Spelling Bee’ auditions near

INDIANAPOLIS — Buck Creek Playhouse will conduct open auditions for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin, March 30 and 31 at Buck Creek Playhouse, 11150 Southeastern Ave.

Director Scott Robinson is looking for a diverse adult group of four women and five men 16 or older who will play both adults and children for this Tony Award-winning musical comedy. Bring 16 to 20 measures of a prepared song (or verse and a chorus) in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. Those auditioning may be asked to read from the script.

All roles are available. Production dates are weekends June 5 to 21. Bring a list of all conflicts from April through June.
