James B. Kelly, Jr., 65, of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at his residence. He was born on Dec. 16, 1949, in Chicago, as the son of James B., Sr. and Ester M. (Bretz) Kelly.

He received his Bachelors in Biology and Zoology from Southern Illinois University. He served in the Army with 5th Special Forces Group, better known as the Green Berets, during the Vietnam War.

James married Lu Ann (Stallings) on June 30, 1987 in Kauai, Hawaii.

He worked for Indiana Department of Labor as a Compliance Officer for many years. Jim was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and coaching baseball. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

James is survived by his wife Lu Ann; son Michael Kelly; daughter Caitlin (Patrick) McConnell; brothers Bill Kelly and Steve Kelly; sisters Barbara Gard, Peggy (Todd) Spratte, and Mary Ellen (Russ Whitacre) Kelly; grandchildren Logan, Colton, and Miss Leah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James B., Sr. and Ester M. (Bretz) Kelly.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place  at 3 p.m. immediately following the visitation.
