Hazel M. Hanssen, age 87, formerly of Greenfield, passed away on Dec. 8, 2011. Born on Oct. 8, 1924, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Elmer H. and Hazel (Beaver) Mackey.
Hazel graduated from Arsenal Tech High School and worked as an office manager for Stuart Warner Alemite. She married Christian Hanssen in 1953 and he preceded her in death in 1975. She was then married to Earl Jarrett for about 15 years and he also preceded her in death.
Hazel was a member of Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church and the Hancock County Homemaker’s Club. She was also a lifetime member of the Cumberland Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving her are her sons, William (Sheila) Sterrett of Indianapolis and Dean (Cindy) Hanssen of Carmel; daughter, Nancy (James) Williams of Calif.; sister, Frances Suesz of Mitchell, Ind.; six grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the mortuary. Pastor Carl Cloud will be officiating and burial will take place at Mt. Comfort Cemetery.
