Isabel Johnson, 92, formerly of Connersville, passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Brandywine Nursing Center, Greenfield. She had moved to Greenfield in 2003 to be closer to her family. A Connersville native, she was born March 18, 1918, one of ten children of Herman L. and Ethel Boyd Handley Adams.

She was a 1936 graduate of Connersville High School and graduated from Richmond Business School. On Jan. 31, 1946, she was married to Donald Johnson, who died in 1960. Isabel was a member of Central Christian Church. She had been employed at American Kitchens and had worked in the payroll department at H.H. Robertson and its predecessors until her retirement. After ten years away from work, Isabel returned to work as a single parent to support her daughters. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing the organ and cooking, especially layer cakes. She loved to be with her grandchildren and was quite the shopper.

Isabel is survived by her two daughters, Becky Niedenthal, Linda (Jerry) Bell, all of Greenfield; five grandchildren and their spouses, Tim (Andrea) Niedenthal of Rushville, Tiffany (Seth) Johnson of Knightstown, Tara Niedenthal of Greenfield, Caitlin Bell of Indianapolis, Stephanie Bell of Chicago, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Quinn Leisure, twins Madison and Tessa Niedenthal, Dru Niedenthal; brother, Birna Adams of Connersville; sister, Elizabeth Hignite of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, Esther May, Handley Adams, Noel Adams, John Adams, Ray Adams, Violet Taylor and Evan Adams.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Alan Terlep of Central Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to the Fayette County Cancer Society.
