NASHUA, New Hampshire — A fire that swept through a Nashua, New Hampshire multi-family home left 10 residents homeless and two dogs dead.

Nashua fire officials say four adults and two children were evaluated at the scene but were not taken to the hospital.

Authorities say the fire began at about 1:30 Thursday afternoon in the 2-1/2-story wood frame house.

Firefighters rescued a third dog, which a neighbor took to a local animal hospital for treatment.

No firefighters were injured, despite what they described as challenges created by a narrow basement stairs and snowbanks.

Officials say the house did have working smoke detectors. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
