MONTPELIER, Vermont — Vermont's rifle deer hunting season is underway.

The 16-day season started Saturday and runs through Nov. 30.

Officials say a hunter may take one legal buck with at least one antler with two or more points anywhere in the state.

The second archery deer hunting season and a muzzleloader season start Dec. 6.

Hunters may take a total of three deer a year, in a combination of seasons. They are restricted to two bucks, with only one buck in each season.
