BLYTHEVILLE, Arkansas — A Mississippi County jury has convicted a 45-year-old Blytheville man of second-degree murder in a 2012 shooting death.
The jury deliberated about four hours before finding Jimmy Northern guilty in the death of Thomas Essig. Northern was originally arrested for first-degree murder in the case.
The jury recommended a 41-year prison term for Northern.
Authorities say Essig's body was found Dec. 1, 2012, in the yard of True Gospel Missionary Church in Blytheville.
