MURRELLS INLET, South Carolina — Six people are safe after they were rescued from a sinking boat off Murrells Inlet.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports ( ) that emergency crews received a report that the boat had struck something in the ocean and was taking on water late Tuesday.

Capt. Chuck Petrella of Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire and Rescue says crews from the department, the Coast Guard and a boat towing company responded. They arrived about 15 minutes after the call was received.

The boat was near the entrance to the Murrells Inlet jetties when it began sinking.

There were no injuries reported.
