BRATTLEBORO, Vermont — A 38-year-old Vermont man with a long criminal history is going to prison in the stabbing death of another man at a Westminster home.

Lonnie Place, of Westminster, on Monday pleaded guilty under a plea agreement in Windham Superior Court to stabbing 37-year-old Michael Johnson in a mobile home on March 1. Place received 10 to 15 years for manslaughter and up to two years for two charges of assaulting a corrections officer.

Place previously pleaded not guilty to charges in March.

His attorney says he doesn't believe it was in his client's mind that he intended to kill Johnson.
