SPARTANBURG, South Carolina — Authorities have charged a Spartanburg man in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says 25-year-old Rodney Obryant Samuels was arrested Tuesday and charged with homicide by child abuse.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger says Christian Blake Gentry was taken on Sunday to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Deputies were called in to investigate, and Clevenger says that an autopsy showed foul play couldn't be ruled out in the boy's death.
Investigators ultimately charged Samuels, saying that the child died from blunt force trauma. Samuels was being held in jail Wednesday. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
