FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth police say that after an officer responding to a call at a home was shot, other officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

Interim Police Chief Rhonda Robertson says the officer was in surgery in stable condition Thursday night following the shooting. The officer was shot at least once.

Corporal Tracey Knight tells WFAA-TV ( ) that officers went to the home after a woman pressed her panic alarm twice. The woman directed police to her back bedroom, where her 40-year-old son was.

When officers knocked on the bedroom door, the son opened fire, hitting one of the officers. The other officers then returned fire.
