AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine officials say the state's overall graduation rate remained relatively flat last year.

The Maine Department of Education said Tuesday that 86.48 percent of students who entered the ninth grade in the fall of 2010 graduated on time last year. That's up slightly from 86.36 percent in 2013. It's about 6 percentage points higher than in the 2009-2010 school year, when the state began using the current calculation method.

Officials say that the graduation rate among black students was 79.18 percent, which is up about 7 percentage points from 2012.

The rate among Asian students also increased to 94.42 percent from 89.06 percent in 2012. Meanwhile, Hispanic students showed a decline from 79.14 percent three years ago to 71.12 percent last year.
