MUSCLE SHOALS, Alabama — A new airline is beginning commercial air service from Alabama's Shoals region.

The TimesDaily reports (http://bit.ly/1y36CBC) that SeaPort Airlines on Monday plans to begin daily commuter flights from Northwest Alabama Regional Airport in Muscle Shoals to Nashville International Airport.

Claire James, a spokeswoman for the Portland, Oregon-based airline, said a ribbon cutting to mark the occasion is planned for 11 a.m. Monday.

Officials say SeaPort will use a nine-seat Cessna Caravan aircraft, whereas past airlines at the airport primarily relied on 34-seat Saab Turboprop planes. Delta Air Lines briefly utilized a 50-seat regional jet before ceasing operations in the Shoals in 2012.

Previous airlines flew to either the Memphis International Airport or Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
