Lehigh builds big lead, holds on late to beat Colgate 30-27

BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania — Nick Shafnisky was 19 of 22 for 204 yards and a touchdown, Rich Sodeke had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Lehigh beat Colgate 30-27 on Saturday.

Shafnisky led Lehigh in rushing, running 19 times for 74 yards. Troy Pelletier added seven catches for 89 yards and a touchdown for the Mountain Hawks (3-7, 2-3 Patriot League), who built a 20-7 lead at halftime, extending it to 30-13 after three quarters.

John Wilkins led Colgate, rushing for 76 yards and had three of the four Raiders touchdowns. Bret Mooney threw for 176 yards and had two interceptions.

Colgate (4-7, 2-3) had an opportunity to tie or take the lead in the final minute, but a Mooney pass was intercepted by LaQuan Lambert at the Colgate 41 with 4 seconds left.
