NEWARK, New Jersey — Gov. Chris Christie is scheduled to have dinner with 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney hours after Romney announced he will not pursue another run for the White House.

The meeting was confirmed by a personal familiar with what was described as a long-planned meeting who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it.

Christie was one of Romney's staunches backers in 2012 and the two remain friends.

Christie is seriously considering his own run for president. His team launched a political action committee earlier this week.

Romney's decision could benefit Christie as well as former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. All three are courting a similar pool of establishment donors.

Romney announced his plans during a conference call with supporters Friday morning.
