FULTON, Missouri — The trial of a Missouri man accused of killing a 6-year-old boy has been delayed.

The Columbia Daily Tribune ( reports that the trial was expected to get underway Wednesday in Fulton for Scottie A. Willet. He is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, receiving stolen property and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.

The delay occurred after Willet's public defender asked for a change of venue.

Prosecutors allege that Willet shot Dayne Hathman in August 2014 while he was babysitting the boy. Callaway County Sheriff's Department investigators found the child's body in a closet at Dayne's home, where Willet had been staying. Authorities said Willet stole Dayne's mother's car and fled.

A hearing in the case has been set for Nov. 2.
