HUNTINGTON, West Virginia — Huntington has put plans to beef up its police department on hold because of declining revenue.

City Council approved spending $500,000 last July to hire 10 new officers last July. Mayor Steve Williams tells The Herald-Dispatch that the new hires remain authorized but the money was never spent.

Williams says the city likely won't hire any of the new officers until its financial outlook improves.
