BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — Lenard Tillery ran for 125 yards and a touchdown as Southern University beat Texas Southern 30-20 Saturday night.
Austin Howard threw for 177 yards and ran for a score for the Jaguars (7-3, 6-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference).
Tyre Bracken ran for a touchdown and Reginald Redding recovered a Howard fumble and took it 88 yards for a score and the Jaguars were up 14-0 late in the first quarter.
Texas Southern's Jimmy Potepa ran for a touchdown to end the period and an Eric Medina field goal and a blocked punt return for a score in the second put the Tigers (5-5, 3-5) up 16-14 with 10:27 left in the first half.
But Southern recovered to lead 21-20 at the break and pulled away for good in the second half with a 46-yard field goal by Greg Pittman in the third quarter and an 8-yard Tillery touchdown run early in the fourth.
