Montana's unemployment rate drops slightly to 4.5 percent

HELENA, Montana — Montana's seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate dropped slightly to 4.5 percent in October.

The Labor Department says the state's unemployment rate has dropped 0.8 percentage points since January, including a 0.1 percentage drop since September.

The national unemployment rate also decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 5.8 percent in October.

Total employment estimates suggest the state added 580 jobs over the last month and 12,145 over the past year. Payroll employment, which does not include the self-employed, saw a decline of 400 jobs in October.

The Labor Department says the state labor force increased by 56 in October while the number of unemployed fell by 525.
