HARTFORD, Connecticut — Connecticut's health insurance exchange has identified the computer glitch that led to about 900 canceled plans and affected thousands of other customers, an Access Health CT spokeswoman said Friday.

Spokeswoman Kathleen Tallarita said a temporary fix has been installed. A permanent one is planned by July 18.

Meanwhile, Access Health CT plans to begin contacting 5,784 subscribers affected by the glitch, including some who were mistakenly shifted into Medicaid plans.

"We're going to be calling each one and validating the information to make sure it's what they signed up for," said Tallarita, adding that "absolutely no one has lost coverage" and that policies should be reinstated as long as people have made their premium payments.

"Now we've got some provisions to take care of it from this point forward," she said.

Republican lawmakers raised concerns last month about how some of their constituents were notified that their policies were being canceled. At the time, Access Health CT said it was not aware of the problem and did not believe it was an issue with their computer system. Tallarita said the exchange then noticed a recurring issue last week coming through the call center and Access Health CT's offices.

She said customers have been affected by the glitch in several ways. Besides being incorrectly shifted into Medicaid plans, some people mistakenly lost their federal subsidy while others received erroneous bills. She said the glitch appeared to be triggered when changes were made to a customer's application.
