PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — State police say a woman who was walking on an Interstate 95 ramp in Providence after a minor car accident was struck by another vehicle and seriously injured.

Officials say the woman is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital on Sunday. Her name hasn't been released.

State police say the woman was involved in a minor accident on I-95 northbound near the on-ramp from Branch Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday. Troopers say she got out of her car and walked up the on-ramp, then turned around and was headed back to her car when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

State police say they're not sure why the woman left her car. The incidents remain under investigation.
