Coroner identifies Butte stabbing victim

BUTTE, Montana — Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal weekend stabbing as a 37-year-old Butte man.

The Montana Standard reports ( ) the Butte-Silver Bow Coroner's Office identified the man as Leonard Eagle. He died after being stabbed multiple times in his upper body and torso.

Police say they are progressing in the investigation to learn what triggered the fight between two men that led to the Sunday morning stabbing.

Authorities have detained a man they are calling a person of interest. The newspaper reports the two men knew each other, and that the unidentified man called 911 as he was driving Eagle to a hospital.
