STAUNTON, Virginia — A former daycare owner has been sentenced to 18 months of home confinement for illegally pocketing $23,000 from the state.

The News Leader ( reports 31-year-old Stephanie Wood of Faber was sentenced Friday in Augusta County Circuit Court.

Wood was convicted in March on 10 counts of welfare fraud and five counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.

She is the former owner of the now-closed Lil Angels Learning Center in Stuarts Draft.

Court records show Wood continued receiving state assistance despite drawing income from the daycare after it opened in 2011. She also falsified records to collect money from a state social services fund.
