PASCAGOULA, Mississippi — Construction officials say the new $30 million dollar Jackson County jail will be move in ready by Sept. 18.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1F3rhJh) project manager Jeff May told the Jackson County Board of Supervisors on Monday that two substantial projects that support the jail -- sanitary sewer and fiber optics communications -- will be complete in June.
Fiber optics will connect the County Services Complex, the Pascagoula Police Department, the jail and county maintenance, opening the door to the possibility of holding video arraignments and avoid transporting inmates from the jail for preliminary hearings.
The jail is 75 percent complete with $19.3 million spent. May said that includes 17 change orders that so far have saved $109,000 on the cost.
