PITTSBURGH — Authorities have identified a 76-year-old woman found dead in a Pittsburgh-area house fire over the weekend.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office says the dead woman was 76-year-oold Bettie McCann. Investigators say she died from inhaling smoke and fumes.

A county fire marshal was continuing to investigate the fire that was reported shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday in Indiana Township, about 15 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

The fire began in an enclosed back porch and wasn't considered suspicious.

Firefighters tried twice to rescue McCann from the home's living room, but were turned back by flames and concerns the structure might collapse.

McCann's son-in-law escaped without injury. McCann's husband and daughter, who also lived in the home, were away working at the time.

The family's dog also died in the fire.
