LOS ANGELES — The National Weather Service says a significant surge of monsoonal moisture into southwest California is bringing an increased threat of thunderstorms and localized flash-flooding to the mountains and deserts.

Meteorologists say the air mass spilling westward into the region from Arizona and Mexico will destabilize Monday morning and the chance of thunderstorms will increase into the afternoon.

Temperatures are also expected to be not as hot as in recent days due to the increased moisture and cloud cover. At the same time, the significant rise in humidity is expected to increase discomfort.
