LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The Arkansas State Fair has delayed its opening time until Monday afternoon because of stormy weather in central Arkansas.

The fair normally opens at 11 a.m., but general manager Ralph Shoptaw says Monday's start time will be pushed back to 4 p.m. Shoptaw says he decided on the later start time after consulting with officials from the company that operates the carnival and rides at the fair.

The rainy weather has already had an impact on the first few days of the fair. Shoptaw says combined attendance from the opening day Friday and Saturday was 54,404 people. That's less than half the number of people who attended the fair in the same two-day period last year.

The fair runs through Sunday.
