SYRACUSE, New York — State transportation officials plan to hold more public meetings in Syracuse on the upcoming project to redesign the elevated stretch of Interstate 81.

The Department of Transportation announced Thursday that it will hold six neighborhood meetings this month about the I-81 viaduct project. The elevated portion of the north-south highway that cuts through downtown Syracuse is deteriorating and needs to be upgraded.

State and federal agencies are conducting an environmental study of the proposed improvements for the highway.

The next round of neighborhood meetings will be held between July 16 and July 31.

DOT officials have held several public meetings on the project to give residents an opportunity to offer their opinions on the various options being considered.
