BELLEVILLE, Illinois — A southern Illinois man is guilty of first-degree murder for intentionally causing a wreck that killed a teenager.

The Belleville News Democrat reported Wednesday that (http://bit.ly/1ryTWKv ) 30-year-old Donald Friese was convicted last Friday by a St. Clair County jury in the April 29, 2013 crash.

The jury found that Friese deliberately steered a large SUV into a car he was chasing at speeds of more than 100 mph, causing both to overturn. A passenger in the car — 18-year-old Mercedes Ferrarie-Troisi of Caseyville — was ejected and died at the scene.

Friese fled on foot but was arrested two weeks later.

Prosecutors say the chase began after a confrontation over missing marijuana.

At the time, Friese was on home confinement after being released from prison on a drug and weapons conviction.
