CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia — Former Virginia starting quarterback David Watford is transferring.
The school says Watford asked for, and has received, a release from his scholarship.
Watford was the Cavaliers' starter in all 12 games last season, when they finished 2-10. He was relegated to third-string status behind Greyson Lambert and Matt Johns this season and even played some at wide receiver.
He will graduate in December with a degree in African American studies, and will be free to play right away at his new school.
In his career at Virginia, Watford completed 277 of 506 passes for 2,693 yards, 11 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
