WARWICK, Rhode Island — Rhode Islanders will get their first look in nearly two decades at the former Rocky Point amusement park, soon to be open as a state park.

A public open house is being held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

The Department of Environmental Management says people will be able to see the changes at the coastal park, as well as remnants of the old amusement park.

Those include the Rocky Point arch, base of the circle swing and bases of the Skyliner ride.

The 83-acre property overlooks Narragansett Bay.

The DEM says cleanup is expected to be completed this fall. Once it is deemed safe, it will open permanently.

The DEM is also working on making a system of walking paths by next summer.
