CORTLAND, New York — A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of a 16-year-old girl found stabbed and bludgeoned inside her central New York home.
Amie Leland was found dead inside her home in Cortland at around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Police said she suffered blunt force trauma, stab wounds and other severe injuries.
The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (http://bit.ly/1KTrUUr ) that Michael Hammond Jr. was arrested later Friday at his home in Virgil.
Hammond was arraigned Saturday in Cortland City Court. He pleaded not guilty to charges including second-degree murder and first-degree burglary.
He is being held without bail.
Police said Hammond had a previous relationship with Leland.
