LONG BEACH, California — Mike Caffey scored 22 points with four 3-pointers as and David Samuels added 15 points and 10 rebounds as Long Beach State defeated UC Santa Barbara 69-53 on Saturday night.

The 49ers (9-11, 3-1 Big West) outrebounded Santa Barbara 47-35, grabbing 34 off the defensive glass and helping to limit Santa Barbara to 25-percent shooting from the field (16-64).

Alan Williams led the Gauchos (8-9, 1-2) with 17 points and 9 boards, John Green scored 11 points and Zalmico Harmon 10.

Long Beach State made 23 of 54 shots with 9 3-pointers. Caffey drained a 3 just before halftime, staking the 49ers to a 35-21 lead, then added a layup in the first minute of the second half. He scored eight points early in the game as Long Beach State rallied from three points down to lead by 10, 27-17, with just under four minutes left in the half.
