INDIANAPOLIS — Weather forecasters say a winter storm that's expected to move into the state overnight could bring up to eight inches of snow to parts of southern Indiana.
A winter storm warning covers 17 counties along the Ohio River and adjacent portions of Indiana's southern third, where heavy snow was forecast to arrive late Sunday and continue Monday.
The National Weather Service says 5-8 inches of snow are expected to have fallen by Monday evening from Vincennes east through Seymour and North Vernon.
Some 3-5 inches of snow are expected from Sullivan through Bloomington, Columbus and Greensburg, with only about an inch forecast along the Interstate 70 corridor that includes Indianapolis.
Residents are urged not to travel overnight and Monday in southern Indiana because roads will become snow-covered and hazardous.
