VIGO, Spain — Germany forward Thomas Mueller was substituted in Tuesday's friendly in Spain after picking up an apparent back injury.

The Bayern Munich player asked to be substituted in the 22nd minute after trying to return to the pitch following a collision with Sergio Ramos.

Mueller had received medical attention on the bench and had returned to the pitch, but only lasted a few minutes before requesting the change.

Bayern lost captain Philipp Lahm for up to three months after he broke his right ankle in training with the club earlier on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola's team was already without the injured Javi Martinez, David Alaba, Thiago Alcantara, Holger Badstuber, Claudio Pizarro and the two backup goalkeepers, Tom Starke and Pepe Reina.
